"Matheus’ works combine primal gestures, strong brushstrokes, and fistful touches on canvas. Her energetic and intense pictorial field dynamically expands and contracts, evoking greater forces of the universe. Her non-objective imagery is associated with the heritage of the New York School.”

"Although many artists try to depict the Big Bang and evolution of the Universe, Karina was there. She saw it first hand and rushed to her studio to paint representations of her experience. She uses paint, brushes, and canvas materials and lets her arm do what it wants. What it wants is to do is follow her momentum, her unconscious messages and impulses. Presto…the cosmos is all its magnificent beauty and chaos. Her brush knows where to go. She obeys her instincts and achieves a bond with universal forces.”

"Her work reveals inner drives as meditations of the universe. A cosmic vision of a spiritual input develops through primal gestures and fistful touches over the canvas. Explosive colors emerge out from the center as an implicit pictorial “big bang”. Void and density dissolve into one another evocating the formless in its primary conception."
